Embracing the challenge

The Shortcut to the top tournament semifinals was paved with awesome matches and fresh stars and Matt Goddard was delivering on both of those things without a doubt. And his AWS career had just begun!

Put your attention to this. Matt won his debut match, his first tournament match against Miseria at the last Black Out show in bloody, violent fashion. Ideal for a new Lunatic who wanted to make and impact in the most successful way. Tough to beat having your first win being in a match with stakes. It was the kind of debut that pro wrestlers always put to mind but don’t often accomplish. But that was the thing…it was Matt’s first match. In a tournament no less. He had more to come. On top of that Matt had never backed down from a fight in his life so of course he wasn’t scared of having to put more work in.

However, he was thinking that after defeating Miseria he had one opponent to face. As in JUST ONE…This time it wasn’t the case.

Matt Goddard: Bloody hell I got THREE opponents for Black Out…Damn. I've got to keep my head on a swivel while I bust open three. And I got a lot of limbs to play with too.

And in his home in England Matt got a surge of urgency and excitement because in his Shortcut to the top tournament match he had not one, not two, but three opponents in his semifinals bout. “Matt Goddard vs. TJ Alexander vs. Hector Venegas vs. AJ Flare” was what match posting read. Three opponents. But none of them scared him in the slightest. Instead Matt was outright excited.

So many opponents to hurt, so little time this round!

So of course Matt went to work. He trained with Mason Hurst, Desiree Forte, Olympia Waybright, and Xander Croft of course. His Centre Of Attention teammates. Each one of them sharpened a certain skill that he needed to have for this match. Power and strength, showmanship and mind games, technical mat wrestling and submission expertise. 

And that's what set Matt apart from any other Lunatic. He wasn’t merely a savage, semi-stable loon; he was a brilliant professional wrestler. 

That was something that his three opponents needed to worry about before their bout at Black Out.

TJ Alexander the agile, technical wrestling striker. Hector who brought street-tough aggression, AJ Flare who brought high flying athleticism had to beware of just what Matt Goddard was bringing to the ring based on bus COA training and his natural born grit.

But without further ado the scene proper however took place in his AWS cell. The camera focused on him as he sat in his chair backwards. 

Matt Goddard: Fucking hell…After I put down that Joker knock-off Miseria I get some time to rest, recover, and renew only to have my first match back against three people in the semifinal round of the Shortcut To The Top tournmanent against TJ Alexander, Hector Venegas, and AJ Flare. From one opponent to three…and I love it! You see…I see this match as even more fun. Because I have a chance to unleash more violence, to raise the status of the Centre Of Attention more, and damn sure make myself look good. More arms to twist, more fingers to break, and more people to fight. This is a chance for me to show the whole world just how good I am as an all-around warrior in the ring and my three opponents don’t stand a chance!

And that was Matt’s mission statement. He was here to put violence on display on the way to victory. Advancing to the next round on a pile of fallen, aching, broken, bodies. Three opponents down, one victorious.

Matt Goddard: I have no fears heading into my semifinals match. I'm not scared of TJ Alexander, the poor man's Xander Croft. That untalented thug Hector Venegas, or that has-been AJ Flare. They're all just targets to me. Playthings for me. Obstacles for me to overcome on my way to the finals so I can have the best rookie year in AWS history. And all I have to do is prove that I am better than the arrogant grappler, brawler, and high-flyer in one match.

Matt then gave a low yet audible chuckle.

Matt Goddard: I like my chances at winning.

Matt dismissed his opponents to the bare bones in regards to how he thought of them. With some lowlights of their matches to support his words just for good measure.

Matt Goddard: And yes tonight at Blackout you will see a lot of blood, hear a lot of men crying in agony and you will see one winner and you’re looking at him. Matthew Goddard You can go now. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
