Slaying The Giant

The shot opens on darkness. Slowly, the image sharpens. A single light source, dim and directional, illuminates David Stryker from the front. Behind him, nothing, just a black background. He’s standing, the AWS 5150 Championship resting on his left shoulder, wearing a black hoodie and dark jeans. His expression is focused. He looks directly into the camera for a long moment before he speaks.

„Three months,“ he says, holding up three fingers for a second.

„Three months in AWS. In my entire career no less. Eight matches. And I’m standing here as your 5150 Champion.“

He glances down at the belt for a moment, then back up.

„I told you this was gonna happen. I said I would make history and become a champion at an even younger age than my father, or his father before him. And then I went and did exactly that.“

He shifts the championship slightly on his shoulder.

„JohnZo Scary stood across from me in that final. A man I know, a man I tagged with, a man who is genuinely dangerous. And I still walked out of that building with this title. Because that’s what I do. I say it, and then I do it, simple as that. That’s the only pattern I’ve established since I got here, and I don’t plan on breaking it.“

He lets that settle for a second, the smile fading back into something more focused.

„Which brings me to Ward 366. To the man they call… ONE.“

He lets the name hang for a few seconds.

„Not The Cohort and their genius plan to invade this place that backfired at Champions Carnival. I want to talk about ONE specifically, because I think people have been so busy being impressed by the size of him that nobody has actually sat down and thought clearly about what he is… So let me do that.“

He takes a slow breath.

„ONE is a weapon. He gets pointed at something and he destroys it. He doesn’t think, he doesn’t strategize. He just executes. And for everybody he’s been aimed at so far, that’s been more than enough. Because most people, when they see something that size moving toward them with that kind of intent, they stop thinking too. They panic, they get scared, they stop thinking and just focus on survival. Me?“ he points at himself.

„I don’t panic,“ he says simply.

„I’ve been in this company for just over three months. In that time I’ve beaten a thirty year veteran, a former world champion, both tag team champions in the same night, and I won the Gold Rush Tournament to bring this title home. None of those matches were won because I’m the biggest or the strongest or the most physically imposing person in the room. No. Every single one of them was won because I was the smartest. Because I prepared, I studied, I found the angle that nobody else saw and I took it.“

He taps the championship.

„That doesn’t change at Ward 366. What changes is the environment. And I’ll be honest about that, because unlike most people on this roster, I don’t feel the need to pretend… 5150 Rules. No disqualifications. No count outs. Anything goes. That is not the environment I built this title reign in. I won this championship in a straight wrestling match against JohnZo Scary. And now I’m defending it against a man who was quite literally built for this kind of match. For no rules to tie him dow.“

He straightens his posture.

„But here’s what I keep coming back to. A weapon is only as dangerous as the hand that holds it. And the hand holding ONE? It already made a mistake.“

Something shifts slightly in his expression. Still controlled, but there’s an edge underneath it now.

„The Gold Rush semifinal. KD Feigel and I, one match away from the final, and The Cohort decides to show up. They stand on that stage, motionless, watching, just long enough to pull KD’s attention away from the match. And I rolled him up for the three count. Now, I’ve said what I’ve said about that win. I read the moment and I took it, and I don’t apologize for that. But let me be very clear about something else. That was the moment The Cohort inserted themselves into my story. Not the other way around. I didn’t go looking for this. They walked into my tournament, and now their weapon is standing across the ring from me at Ward 366 with his eyes on my championship.“

His jaw tightens briefly.

„It will not happen again. Whatever they’re planning, whatever role the rest of The Cohort intends to play at Ward 366, I need them to understand something. I am not KD Feigel. I don’t get distracted. And if any of them decide to involve themselves in my championship match, they will regret it in a way that lasts longer than one night.“

He nods in approval of his own words.

„Now ONE… I studied his footage. He is a monster, no doubt about that. On size and strength alone, the biggest challenge I’ve faced in my career. Everybody he’s ever faced has had to adjust to him…“

He pauses for a second.

„And that was their mistake,“ he says and a small smile forms on his face, like he knows he’s presenting a smart plan.

„Everybody has adjusted to him. Nobody has actually presented him with a problem he had to solve. He has never needed to adapt and figure out a backup plan… And that ends at Ward 366.“

The bravado surfaces now, quiet but unmistakable.

„I know exactly what ONE wants to do to me. Ground Zero. Checkpoint. Get me down, keep me down, one boot on the chest and that’s your show. He’s going to try to smother everything I do before it can breathe. And he has the physical tools to do exactly that if I let him dictate the pace and the space and the terms of the match… Which is why I won’t let him.“

David steps closer to the camera.

„This is what I need ONE and The Cohort and everybody watching to understand. I am not walking into Ward 366 hoping to survive. I am not walking in there to manage a monster for twenty minutes and pray for a lucky opening. I am walking in there to win. To retain the 5150 Championship, because that is the only outcome I have prepared for.“

He reaches up and adjusts the championship on his shoulder.

„You want to talk about a weapon? I’m the most dangerous weapon in that match. Not because of my size. Not because of my power. Because I have spent every day since I won this title studying ONE, studying The Cohort, studying every variable in a 5150 Rules environment, and building a version of myself that is ready for all of it. When ONE steps into that ring and realizes for the first time in his career that his opponent has already seen every move before he makes it, that’s when the weapon becomes useless.

My grandfather was a champion at 25. My father was a champion at 21. I won my first title at 18. I’m not done making that lineage uncomfortable for everyone else on this roster. And I am certainly not losing this championship to a man who has spoken three words in two years.“

He looks directly into the camera one final time.

„Ward 366. ONE gets his shot in a match that’s David vs. Goliath. The outcome will be exactly the same… The giant will fall. And the aura around him will fall with him“

He reaches up and lifts the championship off his shoulder, holds it in front of the camera for a moment, letting the light catch it. Then he lowers it back down and steps back into the darkness behind him. The light source catches nothing but empty space. Fade to black.
